Beyza Burkay
I analyse how systems and processes operate in practice and translate complex problems into clearer workflows, models and decision frameworks. My experience spans manufacturing quality, business analysis, payment-system testing, process simulation, industrial digitalisation and human-centred technology adoption.
Problems investigated
Two of my recent projects below — one a completed feasibility study, one an active thesis — followed by three applied projects.
Quality 5.0 Maturity Model
Quality 4.0 extends established quality-management principles through digital and intelligent technologies. Quality 5.0 builds on that foundation by placing greater emphasis on how quality systems also support people, sustainability and organisational resilience. This thesis develops and preliminarily validates a maturity model comprising five dimensions, 22 factors and factor-specific descriptions across five maturity levels, from Initial to Optimising.
Extended Reality for Timber Construction
Context
Veragouth Xilema, a Swiss timber-construction company, wanted to know whether extended reality could create practical value in its carpentry and joinery operations.
Problem
Could XR reduce interpretation errors, rework and risk during workshop assembly and on-site installation — where mistakes are costly and often irreversible?
What I did
- Evaluated an existing VR platform (TheAppXR) under real usage conditions
- Conducted expert interviews and mapped carpentry & joinery workflows end to end
- Identified high-risk intervention points and derived concrete XR use cases from them
- Translated each use case into explicit technology requirements and mapped them to device categories
PCB Production-Line Simulation
Modeled a discrete-event PCB line — robotic assembly, palletisation, oven timing, defect-handling — with Java state machines, monitoring live KPIs in Grafana.
Textile Quality Improvement
Analysed roll-opening operations and staff allocation with the QC team at Burkay Tekstil.
Wine Reviews — Graduation Project
Built a decision-tree classifier reaching 73% accuracy; engineered NLP sentiment features and a scraped grape-variety colour dictionary for richer regression inputs.
Inside real systems
- Tested payment systems across UAT and Preprod environments using POS and ATM devices, resolving issues through MS SQL analysis with third-party clients.
- Created new UAT clients and payment cards, coordinating card production for diverse physical-device test scenarios.
- Tracked tasks on Jira Kanban using agile methods to keep team priorities transparent.
- Contributed to cost reduction by optimising staff work distribution across the QC floor.
- Conducted a Kaizen study with the Quality Control team on roll-opening capacity.

Outside the system
Cinema is one of my favourite ways to step outside reality for a while. I love losing myself in different worlds and becoming so absorbed in a story that for a few hours, everything else fades away.
Here are some of my favourite films, although narrowing the list down was not easy. For anyone interested in seeing more, my Letterboxd profile is linked below.I founded my high school orchestra, which went on to become a finalist in the Nilüfer High School Music Competition in both 2018 and 2019.
Photography, skiing and console games remain the parts of life where structure gives way to exploration.
